Recently, while talking to a friend of mine, I said, I wish you could clone yourself because everybody seems to need you by their side. Later this morning, as I was thinking about the things we spoke, I was reminded of that verse in the bible. It says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (NIV – Psalms 139:14). God has made each of us unique. I am sure you’ve heard that many times from your pastor, friends, and family. But I believe you won’t be able to fully appreciate that fact until you have someone who is irreplaceable in your life. This could be your parents, your spouse, or your children.
I have come to such a point in my life. That point where you try to find someone who closely matches that person of interest but it is never the same. You just won’t be able to replace that person in your life. You can only wish there was someone out there exactly like them. This is because God made each of us unique. We are His masterpiece, workmanship, and creation. Just like there is no one like God; there is no one like us. This thought goes hand-in-hand with God’s intention of creating us in His image and giving us a chance to choose right from wrong. He didn’t want puppets; He wanted people who could think for themselves. People who could love Him for who He is and what He has done for them at their own discretion.
Think about this for a second! There are billions of people living on this planet, yet each of us unique in our own ways. Think of someone you love – your parents, spouse, or a friend perhaps? There is no one who smiles likes them; who express their emotions the way they do (And someone who don’t express their emotions at all). The things they find funny and the way they sound when they laugh adds another unique layer to their personality. The way they handle different situations, surprises, pressure, persistence, anger, frustration, and love is very different to any other person out there in the world. Even the way they look from the colour of their hair to the shape of their feet, their blue eyes, their oval shaped face, the beautiful curves that form when they smile has all been wonderfully crafted and designed by God. The knowledge and understanding needed to formulate a plan, to perform a task, to carry out that task, to gain satisfaction from fulfilment of that task is all unique to that person. I am sure psychologists can point out a lot more interesting facts about this.
No wonder the psalmist says that we have all been wonderfully and fearfully made. God spoke all things into being but when it came to us, the bible says, He made us. What a loving God we serve? He who had no need for us came to satisfy what we needed most (redemption from sin and gift of eternal life). Let’s be thankful this Christmas as we celebrate the greatest gift the mankind has received.
The next time you are feeling down, remember, you are YOU – You are amazing just the way you are because God took that special time off to make you.
